Job summary

Hester Hornbrook Academy in Geelong seeks a qualified educator to join our HOPE-based program. You will deliver an applied learning curriculum within VPC or VCE VM, working in a multidisciplinary team to support students' learning and wellbeing.

You will contribute to planning, assessment, and reporting, maintain records in the Student Management System and LMS, and uphold Child Safe Standards and risk management requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Education or related discipline and a current Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) registration (provisional or full).
• Current full Victorian driver's licence.
• Applicants must have full working rights in Australia.
• TAE qualifications for teaching VETiS programs is highly desirable.

Job description

Our Teachers work as part of a multidisciplinary classroom team. They are responsible for organising and implementing an instructional program in accordance with the VCAA applied learning curriculum and our Healing Orientated Program of Education (HOPE). The Teachers collaboratively share leadership of the classroom with the other members of the team, including decision making authority.

About Hester Hornbrook Academy:

Hester Hornbrook Academy is a Special Assistance School which provides flexible education and learning options, including Vocational Education and Training in Schools (VETiS), Victorian Pathways Certificate (VPC), VCE Vocational Major (VM), VCE and an Extend program offering a variety of elective subjects. Recognising that mainstream education is not suitable for all young people, Hester programs are driven by the personal pursuits of our students.

HOPE informs our practice model which ensures the integration of academic intervention and growth with wellbeing and life skills. Teachers, Youth Workers, and Education Support staff work together in a collaborative manner to support students to reach their individual goals.

What a day in the role looks like:

Work as part of a multidisciplinary classroom team to develop and maintain a face to face and virtual classroom learning environment which places high expectation on learning for wellbeing and wellbeing for learning.

Support and model a learning environment which is safe, respectful and productive.

Create and deliver an engaging applied learning curriculum at either VPC or VCE VM, applying an understanding of HOPE to support students in a way that allows them to Engage, Equip, Empower and Extend.

Demonstrate a thorough understanding of a range of interventions that promote engagement and inclusivity, build rapport, and develop prosocial behaviours and relationships.

Contribute to the planning and participation in extra-curricular activities, events, excursions and overnight camps.

Maintain accurate records using the school's Student Management System and learning management systems, including regular wellbeing case noting and prepare/contribute to reports (including NCCD) as required.

Ensure all Child Safe, risk management and Hester Hornbrook documentation requirements are adhered to.

What we are looking for:

Proven ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide educational interventions for young people to enable them to develop learning for wellbeing and achieve educational success.

Proven ability to engage young people with education and wellbeing outcomes.

Experience working with young people, including those who identify as LGBTQI+ and those from diverse cultural backgrounds, in a trauma-informed setting, who have existing barriers to education.

An understanding of trauma-informed practice, restorative justice principles and the necessary skills to engage young people with multiple and complex needs.

Strong understanding of the NCCD guidelines and competencies in documenting and fulling NCCD requirements.

Demonstrated capacity to work flexibly and with the ability to manage competing demands as is the case in a secondary school setting.

Understanding of relevant legislation, including Child Safe Standards as they are relevant to a Senior Secondary School setting.

Qualifications and registrations:

Bachelor of Education or related discipline and a current Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) registration (provisional or full).

Current Training and Assessment (TAE) qualifications for teaching VETiS programs is highly desirable.

Valid full Victorian driver's licence.
