Tallboy & Moose have spent a decade brewing beer in Preston. They're looking for a lead brewer to join the tight-knit crew.
Job Description: Lead Brewer
Love the smell of fresh wort in the morning, a mash paddle in your hand and a tank full of something you can't wait to pour?
Who is 'us'?
We, Tallboy and Moose, are a creative and independent craft brewpub based in Preston, Victoria. We're after a lead brewer to steer the ship in our brewhouse and keep Melbourne's glasses full of beer worth talking about. This is a part time role of 30.4 hours per week.
Duties include:
- Running brewing operations from go to whoa: recipe development, production scheduling, batch management and quality control
- Keeping everything squeaky clean and above board, with compliance with food safety and regulatory standards front of mind
- Looking after stock and raw materials, including inventory control, ordering, supplier liaison and cost management
- Maintaining, cleaning and sanitising brewing equipment, tanks and cellar facilities (a happy brewery is a clean brewery)
- Dreaming up and delivering product development, seasonal and limited releases, and special projects as directed
- Getting the good stuff into packages: kegging, canning and related production duties
- Pitching in with taproom sampling, staff education and brand representation as required
- Other duties from time to time in relation to the business, as directed
Key accountabilities and duties may change over time as the business develops and grows, so we're looking for someone who loves a bit of flexibility.
You will:
- Have a proven track record in commercial brewing, with the chops to lead a brewhouse
- Be able to work autonomously, managing your own brew days and priorities without needing someone looking over your shoulder
- Be a creative thinker who gets excited about new recipes, seasonals and left-field collabs
- Be a master of process and metrics, because what gets measured, gets brewed right
- Have strong organisational and time-management skills to keep production humming, on target and on time
- Know your way around food safety, quality control and regulatory requirements
- Be hands-on and happy to get stuck into cleaning, packaging and everything in between
- Be a natural communicator who can talk beer with the team, the taproom crowd and the punters
- Think holistically and consider the business's greater culture, scale and cost goals
- Have heaps of enthusiasm, a positive outlook and beery ambitions
What's in it for you?
- The keys to a creative, independent brewhouse and the freedom to put your stamp on our beers
- Tricked out in merch and beers!
- You get to hang out with a fabulous team of people
