Job summary

Jobtailor seeks a Systems Engineer in Canberra to support sustainment and evolution of complex systems within an engineering delivery team.

You will execute systems engineering activities across investigation, analysis, design, and change implementation, collaborate with software engineers, architects, project teams, and stakeholders, and develop engineering artefacts while managing technical risk through governance gates.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience in systems engineering within complex projects or enterprise environments.
• Solid understanding of systems engineering principles and lifecycle management.
• Experience in secure enterprise, Defence, or government environments.
• Experience with Agile or hybrid delivery models.
• Exposure to sustainment environments and engineering change management processes.
• Familiarity with governance, assurance, and configuration management practices.
• Experience eliciting, analysing, and managing requirements across the system lifecycle.
• Ability to work with architects, engineers, and project members in secure environments.

Responsibilities

• Work with Configuration Management and Verification & Validation engineers to control, verify, and document system changes.
• Perform engineering investigations for defect resolution, capability enhancement, and sustainment decisions.
• Define, develop, and execute Engineering Change Proposals for systems under sustainment.
• Conduct systems analysis, requirements management, and system design for system changes.
• Develop and maintain systems engineering documentation, requirements, design descriptions, and impact assessments.
• Support change control, baselines, and configuration integrity.
• Contribute to requirements traceability, design justification, and technical evidence.
• Ensure compliance with security, quality, engineering governance, project management, and ITIL-aligned service management frameworks.
• Provide technical advice and build relationships with internal teams, customers, and stakeholders.
• Contribute to continuous improvement, lessons learned, and engineering best practices.

Requirements

• Demonstrated experience working as a systems engineer within complex project, sustainment, or enterprise environments
• Solid understanding of systems engineering principles and lifecycle management
• Experience within secure enterprise, Defence, or government environments
• Experience with Agile or hybrid delivery models
• Exposure to sustainment environments and engineering change management processes
• Familiarity with engineering governance, assurance, and configuration management practices
• Experience eliciting, analysing, and managing requirements across the system lifecycle
• Experience performing system analysis and contributing to system design activities within secure operational environments
• Track record working on complex system projects involving multiple stakeholders and technical domains
• Experience with configuration-controlled systems and assurance, verification, or validation activities
• Ability to identify and manage technical risks
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to produce clear engineering documentation
• Ability to work effectively with architects, engineers, and project members
• Must be an Australian Citizen
• Must hold an active NV2 Clearance
• Ability to be successful for a DISA
