Job summary

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is building secure, scalable environments for sensitive workloads in Australia. The AWS Region Services team combines global cloud leadership with local security expertise to deliver high-availability operations across core pillars such as Compute, Security, Storage, and Databases.

This role focuses on hardware, automation, and operational excellence to support mission-critical workloads.

Qualifications

• 3+ years Linux/UNIX administration and networking fundamentals.
• 3+ years Operations experience with CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience with cloud systems and troubleshooting at scale.
• 3+ years working in Linux/UNIX based OS.
• Experience supporting cloud systems and troubleshooting performance.
• Australian citizen or eligible for Australian Government Security Clearance.

Responsibilities

• Define hardware requirements and support operability features (system health monitoring, diagnostics, repair, self-healing automation).
• Develop or enhance application and system management tools to reduce manual effort and increase efficiency.
• Adapt operations management to growth in systems and traffic.
• Participate in production acceptance tests and hardware evaluations.
• Monitor fleet health and automate maintenance tasks and reporting.
• Participate in on-call rotations to resolve incidents.

The AWS Region Services team combines AWS global cloud leadership with Australian security expertise to deliver highly secure, scalable environments for sensitive workloads. The Engineering organisation within Region Services is structured across core capability pillars: Compute & Machine Learning, Security Identity & Compliance, Storage & Databases, and a growing capability domain. Key responsibilities

• Define and/or refine hardware requirements, participate in the development and delivery of operability-related features such as system health monitoring, diagnostics, repair, and other self-healing automation
• Develop or further existing application and system management tools and processes that reduce manual efforts and increase overall efficiency
• Adapt and improve operations management systems and processes to accommodate rapid and increasing growth in systems and traffic
• Participate in the design and execution of production acceptance tests and new hardware evaluations
• Monitor the health of the fleet, automating system health, maintenance tasks, and reporting systems as needed
• Participate in on-call rotations to resolve incidents occurring out-of-hours

About you

• 3+ years of experience with Linux, using the command line and basic administration, and computer networking fundamentals
• 3+ years of Operations experience working with CI/CD Pipelines and deployment systems like Terraform, Github Actions, Jenkins, or others
• Able to troubleshoot at all levels, from network to operating systems to software applications
• 3+ years working in Linux or other UNIX based Operating Systems
• Experience supporting cloud systems or other services. Proficient troubleshooting and anticipating problems that affect the performance, reliability, or availability of software systems
• Australian citizen and hold or be eligible to obtain an Australian Government Security Clearance with the ability to successfully complete an Organisational Suitability Assessment
• Experience operating 24x7 high-availability, distributed software applications and performance tuning software applications and optimizing fleet utilization
• Understanding of network fundamentals (DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, routing, load balancing, load shedding) and experience with monitoring frameworks (such as CloudWatch, Datadog, Grafana, Elastic or similar)
• Experience scripting operating system tasks in Bash, Python, etc. and with Infrastructure as Code (such as CDK, CloudFormation, Puppet, Chef, Ansible, or similar)
