Job summary

Partner Company in Australia is seeking a Systems Engineer to support the integration of advanced digital and sensor capabilities across tactical networks. You will contribute to architecture, requirements, integration, assurance, and testing within a nationally focused office.

You will engage Defence, industry and project stakeholders to strengthen interoperability and governance, developing SEN plans, supporting design and test reviews, and guiding risk management and verification efforts.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related discipline.
• Eligibility for membership with Engineers Australia or an equivalent professional engineering body.
• Significant experience in systems engineering within ICT, Defence, or other complex technology environments.
• Demonstrated experience supporting complex Command, Control, Communications and Computing (C4) systems.
• Practical experience across systems integration, verification, validation, and Test & Evaluation activities.
• Ability to hold or exercise engineering design authority within complex technical environments.
• Eligibility to obtain and maintain an NV1 Security Clearance.
• Experience with military communications, networks, software-intensive systems, interoperability standards, or related Defence technologies is highly desirable.
• Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), safety-critical systems, software assurance, or comparable engineering disciplines is advantageous.
• Strong ability to provide technical leadership and engage effectively with senior stakeholders, engineering authorities, and multidisciplinary teams.
• Experience supporting Defence acquisition, capability development, or complex systems integration programs is highly desirable.
• Knowledge of Defence capability processes, engineering governance, Land Worthiness processes, project management, scheduling, risk management, and technical team leadership is advantageous.
• Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status is highly desirable.
• ADF service or experience working within Defence-related organisations is advantageous.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex engineering matters into clear reports, briefings, and recommendations.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain Systems Engineering Management Plans (SEMP), Test and Evaluation Master Plans (TEMP), requirements, stakeholder needs, architecture artefacts, and verification and validation plans.
• Prepare for and support design reviews, requirements reviews, test readiness reviews, and other formal engineering activities.
• Exercise delegated technical authority for prototyping activities and provide engineering advice throughout capability development and integration.
• Support the implementation of integrated sensor capabilities across tactical networks while ensuring alignment with Defence engineering, architecture, assurance, and governance frameworks.
• Provide systems engineering guidance on architecture implementation, interoperability, integration, and technical assurance.
• Collaborate with Defence, industry, engineering teams, project offices, technical authorities, and senior stakeholders to support technical direction and delivery.
• Identify, assess, and manage technical risks while supporting engineering governance, assurance, compliance, and capability integration activities.
• Contribute to verification, validation, Test & Evaluation, and operational test activities throughout the capability lifecycle.
• Produce project status reports, situation reports, engineering documentation, technical artefacts, presentations, assessments, and recommendations.
• Contribute to technical planning and provide evidence-based engineering recommendations to support senior leadership and capability decisions.

As a Systems Engineer, you will support the integration of advanced digital and sensor capabilities across complex tactical network environments.
You will contribute systems engineering expertise across architecture, requirements, integration, assurance, and Test & Evaluation activities.
The role sits within a newly established national office focused on advancing an Integrated Sensor Architecture across current and future capabilities.
You will work across Defence, engineering, technical, industry, and project stakeholders to strengthen interoperability and technical governance.
Your responsibilities will include developing engineering plans, supporting design and test reviews, managing technical risks, and providing engineering assurance.
You will also contribute to strategic technical direction, capability integration, verification, validation, and operational testing.
