Job summary

Profectus is seeking an experienced Senior Systems Engineer to provide technical authority and systems engineering support across Defence command, control and communications capability. The role covers planning, design, integration, verification and governance for land-based network and communications systems.

You will advise senior Defence stakeholders, supervise engineering functions, and contribute to design reviews and technical assessments across complex systems and networks.

Qualifications

• Postgraduate qualifications with significant professional experience in ICT or related fields.
• Bachelor degree in mechatronic, electronic, systems, software or computer engineering.
• Demonstrated systems engineering experience, preferably in a military C4 environment.
• Ability to hold and exercise design authority as issued by a chief engineer.
• Strong background in design, build and test across complex systems and networks.
• Experience providing high level technical and risk advice to senior staff.
• Knowledge of computing, telecommunications and data storage protocols and standards.
• Stakeholder engagement and problem solving skills.
• Ability to complete mandatory Defence and role specific training requirements.

Responsibilities

Job description

Profectus is seeking experienced Senior Systems Engineers to provide technical authority and systems engineering support across Defence command, control and communications capability. You will also provide technical advice to senior Defence stakeholders and support engineering functions across the wider program.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide systems engineering advice and technical authority across assigned capability
• Develop systems engineering plans, test plans and supporting technical documentation
• Conduct design, integration and interoperability activity across tactical network and communications systems
• Plan and run prototyping and trial activity, including test design, execution and reporting
• Undertake verification and validation of system designs against requirements and standards
• Exercise design authority where assigned by the chief engineer
• Assess data standards and interface specifications for integration across platforms and systems
• Provide technical risk advice and **escalate** design and risk items to senior technical and executive staff
• Support technical governance, configuration control and engineering change processes
• Engage with ADF, APS and industry stakeholders on integration and capability matters
• Contribute to broader engineering functions including design reviews, estimates and technical assessments

Required Experience

• Postgraduate systems engineering qualifications with significant professional experience in computer science, software engineering, computer engineering or electronic engineering, or a minimum of 15 years industry experience in project management, preferably in ICT environments
• Bachelor degree (4 years or higher) in a relevant engineering discipline such as mechatronic, electronic, systems, software or computer engineering, suitable to achieve membership of Engineers Australia
• Demonstrated systems engineering experience, preferably in a military C4 environment
• Suitable skills, qualifications and experience to hold and exercise design authority as issued by a chief engineer
• Strong background in design, build and test functions across complex systems, networks and associated software
• Experience providing high level technical, design and risk advice to senior technical and executive staff
• Knowledge of computing, telecommunications and data storage protocols and standards
• Strong stakeholder engagement, leadership, communication and problem solving skills
• Ability to complete mandatory Defence and role specific training requirements
• Chartered engineer status with Engineers Australia
• Over 10 years experience with design, build and test (verification and validation) of C4I military systems, networks and associated software using systems engineering practices
• Experience in safety critical software or systems development processes and practices
• Experience delivering capability outcomes within complex, multi disciplinary teams
• Experience performing similar duties within Defence, Government or industry environments
• Experience with data standards, interface control and interoperability across platform and network systems

Security Clearance Requirements

• Must be an Australian Citizen
• Must have a current AGSVA NV1 Security Clearance
• Must be able to meet ITAR eligibility requirements
