Leaptel in Melbourne is seeking a hands-on Systems Administrator to manage Linux servers, Proxmox, and core services. You’ll collaborate with Network and Development teams to keep infrastructure secure and reliable.
With 2+ years of Linux experience, you’ll patch systems, manage backups, support NGINX/Apache, PHP, and MySQL/MariaDB, and automate routine tasks while contributing to documentation and improvements.
Leaptel is a growing Melbourne-based internet service provider delivering lightning-fast, rock-solid internet. We value collaboration, continuous improvement, and the reliable systems that keep our business running. We’re looking for a hands-on Systems Administrator to manage our Linux servers, Proxmox platform, and core services. You’ll work closely with our Network and Development teams to maintain secure, reliable infrastructure.
This role suits someone with 2+ years’ Linux experience who’s keen to build their skills and take ownership, without needing to know every technology from day one.
– Manage Proxmox virtual machines, storage and resource allocation, maintain Linux servers, and deploy and support NGINX, Apache, PHP, and MySQL/MariaDB. You’ll also maintain supporting services such as DNS, TLS certificates, mail, and RADIUS, and help with physical infrastructure when needed.
– Patch systems, remediate vulnerabilities, apply security controls aligned with the Essential Eight, and manage Cloudflare protections. You’ll maintain monitoring and alerting, investigate incidents, manage backups and test restores, following established change management practices.
– Keep documentation current, automate repetitive tasks where practical and use AI tools such as Claude to assist with scripting, troubleshooting, and documentation, verifying the output before use.
– Work closely with the Network and Development teams to resolve issues, prepare environments, and maintain reliable services. You’ll take ownership of issues within your scope and elevate risks when needed.
Experience with some of the following would also be valuable, but isn’t essential: Ceph, ZFS, NFS, RAID, Docker, cloud services, Cloudflare, Laravel, RADIUS/AAA, Linux mail services, database replication, Bash/Python/Ansible, Essential Eight, ITIL or relevant Linux certifications. ISP or service provider experience and hands‑on data centre work are also desirable.
You’ll need to be comfortable participating in an on‑call roster and working outside business hours when required, and be able to obtain the necessary police checks, AusCheck clearance, and data centre access credentials.
