Job summary

Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA) in Sydney/ Melbourne seeks an exceptional Head of Systemic Issues to shape strategy and lead a nationally significant function within Australia's consumer protection framework.

You will collaborate with the Executive General Manager and regulators, drive transformation, strengthen governance, and build high‑performing teams to identify and address systemic issues affecting consumers and the financial services sector.

Qualifications

• Extensive leadership experience in complex operational or regulatory functions.
• Proven track record delivering large-scale transformation programs.
• Deep knowledge of financial services regulation and consumer protection.
• Exceptional stakeholder engagement with regulators, industry and executives.
• Strong analytical skills to navigate emerging issues.
• Experience leading senior leaders and building high-performing teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead AFCA's Systemic Issues function and set strategic direction.
• Drive improvement and transformation initiatives across the function.
• Build high-performing teams and foster accountability.
• Provide strategic advice to executives and key stakeholders.
• Oversee governance, risk, compliance and reporting activities.
• Identify trends and issues affecting consumers and financial services.
• Engage regulators and industry groups to influence outcomes.
