Job description

Profectus is seeking an experienced Systems Engineering Manager to support systems engineering activities on a project within an Australian Government agency. You will provide systems engineering management and technical advice across capability development, acquisition, integration, sustainment and modernisation activities. The work covers engineering governance, technical assurance, system-of-systems integration and the application of Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE).

Key Responsibilities

• Provide systems engineering management and technical leadership across a portfolio of capability programs
• Provide specialist engineering advice supporting capability development, acquisition, integration and sustainment
• Coordinate and provide technical direction to APS and contracted engineering personnel
• Establish and coordinate engineering governance activities, technical review forums and engineering working groups
• Review technical documentation, engineering artefacts and contractor deliverables for completeness and quality
• Identify, assess and manage engineering risks, issues and dependencies
• Assess system-of-systems integration requirements, interoperability and capability dependencies
• Support the development and review of technical strategies, architectures and planning documentation
• Support the adoption of MBSE for requirements management, architecture development, integration planning and lifecycle management
• Identify opportunities to apply digital engineering, automation and AI-enabled tools to engineering analysis and assurance
• Represent engineering interests at design reviews, workshops and governance forums
• Prepare reports, briefs and recommendations for senior leadership

Required Experience

• Demonstrated experience providing systems engineering leadership or management within Defence or similarly complex, large-scale government programs
• Experience applying systems engineering principles across the capability lifecycle, including development, acquisition, integration, sustainment and modernisation
• Experience in engineering governance, technical assurance, engineering risk management and engineering reviews
• Experience reviewing and assuring complex technical documentation, engineering artefacts and contractor deliverables
• Understanding of, and experience applying or advising on, MBSE principles and methods
• Experience with systems integration, interoperability and system-of-systems engineering
• Demonstrated ability to engage and influence senior Defence, government, industry and technical stakeholders, including ADF members, APS personnel and contractors
• Ability to provide senior technical and strategic engineering advice to decision makers
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the preparation of executive-level briefs and reports

Desirable Experience

• Tertiary qualifications in Systems Engineering, Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology or a related discipline
• Formal systems engineering certification or professional accreditation, such as INCOSE ASEP, CSEP or ESEP
• Formal training or certification in MBSE or digital engineering tools and languages such as SysML
• Experience applying automation or AI-enabled engineering tools to support analysis, traceability or assurance
• Experience within Defence capability management, acquisition, integration or sustainment
• Experience on Joint or Integrated Force capability programs
• Project Management, Program Management or Engineering Management qualifications

Security Clearance Requirements

• Must be an Australian Citizen
• Must have a current AGSVA NV1 Security Clearance (or higher)
