Job summary

Padua College in Queensland is seeking a Swimming Development Coach to elevate swimmers’ performance beyond basic skills, focusing on technique, conditioning, and competitive readiness. Shifts run 3:00 PM–5:30 PM, Monday to Thursday, with additional morning squad and Learn to Swim coverage.

You will develop tailored practice plans, observe and provide feedback, motivate athletes to excel, and ensure pool safety and record-keeping.

Qualifications

  • Swimming Australia Development Coach or equivalent certification and experience as a development coach.
  • Swimming Australia Advanced Coach certificate is highly regarded.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certificate.
  • Ability to work autonomously with initiative and task prioritisation.

Job Description

About the Role

The Swimming Development Coach is responsible for developing the swimmers’ capability beyond basic aquatic skills, with a focus on improving swimming efficiency, stroke technique, athletic development and competitive swimming skills.

Shifts for this role are generally scheduled from 3:00 PM to 5:30 PM, Monday to Thursday, with additional coverage required for morning squad sessions and Learn to Swim lessons.

Key Responsibilities / Duties:
  • Provide instruction and guidance to swimmers in various aspects of swimming, including technique, stroke development, breathing, and race strategies.
  • Develop and implement practice plans that are tailored to the specific needs and abilities of the squad, focusing on skill development, conditioning, and race preparation.
  • Observe and evaluate swimmers' performance, providing constructive feedback, and demonstrating proper techniques.
  • Encourage and motivate students to achieve their personal best.
  • Ensure the pool area and equipment are well-maintained and meet safety standards.
  • Keep accurate records of students' attendance, progress, and achievements.

Desired Skills and Experience
To be considered for this role, you should have:
  • Swimming Australia Development Coach or equivalent certification (required) coupled with experience working as a development coach in a similar role.
  • Swimming Australia Advanced Coach certificate (highly regarded).
  • Current First Aid and CPR certificate.
  • An ability to work autonomously, with demonstrated initiative and motivation to prioritise tasks effectively.
