• Prepare and implement strategies to increase sustainable practices for Council and the community.
• Increase public awareness of sustainable resource use through education and community programs.
• Develop and implement education and community awareness programs in sustainability.
• Act as key contact for government agencies, industry, community groups and the public, coordinating information and initiatives.
• Investigate Council operations to identify opportunities for improved sustainability and support officers in implementing initiatives.

Our Environment and Sustainability team is seeking a motivated and passionate individual to help drive and deliver sustainability outcomes across the Tamworth region. This role will work collaboratively with government agencies, industry, community, and other key stakeholders to achieve the targets and actions outlined in Council's Environmental Sustainability Strategy.

The successful candidate will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to confidently engage and build positive relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders. Strong verbal presentation skills, initiative and a collaborative approach are essential.

The Sustainability Officer is responsible for:

• Provide specialist guidance to the organisation to enable compliance with relevant targets, objectives and actions contained in the Environmental Sustainability Strategy.
• Preparation and implementation of strategies aimed at increasing sustainable practices for Council and the community.
• Increase public awareness of the need for sustainable use of resources, through:
• Development and implementation of education and community awareness programs in the area of sustainability
• Act as a key point of contact for government agencies, industry, community groups, and the general public, coordinating and facilitating the effective delivery of information, advice, and initiatives that promote sustainable practices and resource conservation.
• Investigate Council operations, services, and activities to identify opportunities for improved sustainability outcomes and resource efficiency, and support responsible officers in implementing sustainable practices and initiatives.

TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL NEED

• Qualifications in relevant area - Sustainability, Environmental Science, Natural Resources or related position or experience
• Strong knowledge of environmental and planning legislation
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
• A collaborative approach and passion for delivering quality environmental outcomes
• Class C Driver Licence
• Working With Children Check (WWCC) clearance

Salary range: Grade 15 -$92,449.99 - $100,036.76 per annum plus superannuation for a 35 hour work week. Salary may be negotiated based on skills, experience and your value to our organisation.

Flexible working arrangements will be considered by mutual agreement and according to operational requirements.
