Job description

As Sustainability Manager, you'll play a senior role in delivering Queensland Airports Limited's ESG strategic priorities by leading the delivery of complex, commercially-focused projects that create tangible outcomes for the business. This is not your typical Sustainability Manager role (and may suit you if you come from a different background with an interest in sustainability). You'll combine strategic thinking with hands-on project delivery, working across areas such as electrification, behind-the-meter renewable energy and energy storage initiatives, while partnering with experts in finance, legal, procurement and operational teams to ensure sustainability investments deliver financial value. With a broad skillset spanning sustainability, strategy, project management, commercial management and technical disciplines, you'll have the opportunity to see ideas through from concept to implementation and to embed sustainability considerations into business decision-making, helping shape QAL's long-term success.

Ona joined QAL’s Sustainability team in 2025 in the role of Senior Analyst - Sustainability and Climate Reporting, and shares her experience about what she loves about working at QAL.

I enjoy the flexibility QAL offers and working in sustainability brings a lot of variety. My role spans emissions accounting and climate reporting across very different sites, and there's value in understanding how the work connects across teams and the communities we operate in as the industry navigates sustainability challenges.

How will you make an impact?

You will make a meaningful impact at QAL by independently delivering sustainability initiatives that create lasting value for the business. Working across complex projects, with an initial focus on electrification and behind-the-meter renewable energy and storage, you'll combine strategic thinking with hands-on delivery to progress opportunities from concept through to implementation. Leveraging your commercial acumen, critical thinking and ability to navigate ambiguity, you'll partner with stakeholders across the business and externally to scope opportunities, evaluate options, influence outcomes and ensure sustainability initiatives are practical, commercially sound and aligned with QAL's long-term objectives.

You will bring broad experience working across complex projects, programs or business challenges, with the ability to quickly understand new and technical concepts, navigate ambiguity and apply structured problem-solving to achieve outcomes. You are commercially minded and can evaluate information critically, identify key issues and interdependencies, collaborate effectively with experts and stakeholders, and translate complex analysis into clear, practical recommendations for decision-makers

Key deliverables/responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Deliver QAL's ESG strategic priorities, including initiatives within the 5-Year Strategic Roadmap and 2030 Net Zero Implementation Plan.
  • Lead the scoping, development and delivery of sustainability projects, with an initial focus on electrification, renewable energy and energy storage opportunities.
  • Critically evaluate complex sustainability initiatives and adapt your approach accordingly, to reach clear and fact-based recommendations and communicate these succinctly.
  • Provide expert sustainability advice and support to leaders and stakeholders across the business to inform decision-making and project outcomes.
  • Partner with Finance, Legal, Procurement and operational teams to ensure sustainability initiatives are commercially optimal, effectively governed and deliver measurable business value.
