Job summary

The Animal Referral Hospital Canberra is seeking a dedicated Surgery Veterinary Nurse to join our team on a part-time or full-time basis. The role focuses on supporting surgical procedures, anesthesia monitoring, and post-operative patient care within a leading veterinary specialty environment.

Ideal candidates hold a Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing, have at least two years of surgical experience, and possess excellent communication skills.

Qualifications

• Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing or equivalent qualification.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in a veterinary nursing role, with a focus on surgical procedures.
• Strong knowledge of surgical nursing techniques and protocols.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
• Compassionate attitude towards animals and their caregivers.
• Willingness to be on-call for emergency specialised surgical procedures.

Responsibilities

• Assisting veterinarians during surgical procedures, including preparation, monitoring, and post-operative care
• Maintaining surgical suites and equipment to ensure cleanliness and functionality
• Providing support in anesthesia administration and monitoring
• Monitoring patient vital signs and responding to changes in condition
• Providing compassionate care to patients and their families, offering education and support as needed
• Collaborating with other members of the veterinary team to ensure seamless patient care
