Job summary

Kanda is seeking Disability Support Workers to assist a woman in Moss Vale, Bowral and the Southern Highlands. The role centers on capacity-building, encouraging the person to do as much as possible, with prompting and guidance where needed.

The position may include a short-term trial in a community living setting and training prior to commencement. Shifts are community-based, focusing on development of skills and independence, with collaboration with an OT and broader support team.

Qualifications

• Experience with capacity-building goals or brain injury support is desirable.

About the role

We're looking for Disability Support Workers to support a woman in the Moss Vale, Bowral and wider Southern Highlands area. The role will initially focus on community access and everyday activities, supporting the person to participate in the community and build confidence and independence. This is a capacity-building role, rather than a traditional task-based support position. You'll be encouraged to support the person to do as much as possible for herself, providing prompting, guidance and assistance where needed. There is also an upcoming 10-14 day community living trial expected towards the end of October, where selected Support Workers may have the opportunity to provide support within a short-term accommodation setting. This may involve a range of everyday activities including meal preparation, shopping, household tasks, routines and community access. Workers selected for the trial will receive training from the treating team prior to commencement.

Current community access shifts

• Approximately 3 shifts per week
• Generally 2–4 hours per shift
• Based around the Bowral / Moss Vale area

What we’re looking for

• Are patient, approachable and able to build genuine rapport
• Know how to provide prompting and encouragement without taking over
• Enjoy supporting people to develop skills and independence
• Are confident supporting community access and everyday activities
• Have experience supporting people with acquired brain injury, rehabilitation or capacity-building goals
• Are reliable and have good availability
• Are comfortable working collaboratively with an OT and broader support team

Your previous career, your life experience and the skills you’ve developed along the way can all make you a great Support Worker.

What you’ll need

• Current P2 or open’s driver’s licence and reliable vehicle
• Working with Children’s Check and NDIS Worker Screening Check, or willingness to obtain
• First Aid and CPR, or willingness to obtain
• The right to work in Australia
