Job summary

ProCare Australia is seeking an experienced Support & Advocacy Worker on behalf of a Brisbane community services client.

This hands-on role supports adults who have experienced childhood abuse, including institutional abuse, with practical barriers, service navigation, housing advocacy, and court support. It is not a counselling or therapy position.

Qualifications

• Relevant Community Services experience supporting people with complex needs

• Strong case note and documentation skills
• Current Open Driver Licence
• Willingness to undertake community outreach and driving

Responsibilities

• Providing practical, trauma-informed support and advocacy
• Accompanying participants to medical, court and other appointments
• Supporting participants to navigate Housing, Centrelink/Services Australia and other government services
• Assisting with forms, applications and practical needs
• Providing housing-related support and advocacy
• Connecting participants with mental health, AOD, DFV, legal, health and other specialist services
• Making warm referrals and following up with services
• Providing community outreach and practical assistance
• Working alongside participants towards agreed support plans and goals
• Maintaining accurate case notes and documentation

About the Opportunity

ProCare Australia is seeking an experienced and compassionate Support & Advocacy Worker on behalf of one of our established not‑for‑profit Community Services clients in Brisbane.

This is a practical, hands‑on support and advocacy role working with adults who have experienced childhood abuse, including institutional child sexual abuse.

This is not a counselling or therapy role.

You’ll work alongside participants to address practical barriers, navigate complex service systems and access the support they need. This may include attending appointments, housing advocacy, court support, completing applications, navigating government services and connecting participants with specialist supports.

The role requires someone who can combine trauma-informed practice with practical action, while maintaining strong professional boundaries and respecting participant choice and independence.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Providing practical, trauma-informed support and advocacy

The Experience We’re Looking For

You don’t need previous Redress experience.

We’re interested in candidates with experience across areas such as:

• Housing and homelessness


• Community outreach


• Complex case management


• Domestic and family violence


• Alcohol and other drug services


• Child protection or out-of-home care


• Justice or court support


• Disability or community mental health


• Advocacy


• Other services supporting vulnerable or marginalised people

You’ll be calm, practical, resilient and trauma-informed, with the ability to build trusting relationships while maintaining clear professional boundaries.

You’ll understand that trauma can influence behaviour and communication and be confident using appropriate de‑escalation strategies when participants are distressed, frustrated or overwhelmed.

Qualifications

A relevant Certificate, Diploma or tertiary qualification in Community Services, Human Services, Social Work, Mental Health, Youth Work, Disability or a related discipline is highly regarded.

However, significant relevant experience and demonstrated competence will also be considered.

Mandatory Requirements

About the Role

• 12-month fixed-term contract with strong potential for extension, subject to funding


• SCHADS Award Level 4 $92,286 – $99,294 PA + 12% Super


• Monday–Friday, generally around 9:00am–5:00pm


• Primarily based in Stones Corner, with attendance at Greenslopes and community outreach


• Pool vehicles available for work‑related outreach


• Supportive team environment with experienced colleagues


• Professional supervision and regular staff debriefing

This is an onsite and community-based role rather than a standard work-from-home position.
