Job description

Workplace Type: Onsite

Newmont produces metals the world needs - safely, responsibly and with care for people, communities and the environment. With a 100+ year history, we continue to shape the future of mining through innovation and strong operational performance. By joining our inclusive, world-class team, you can help shape the future of mining and make a meaningful difference.

Cadia is a major gold and copper mining operation in central New South Wales, about 25 kilometres from the city of Orange and 250 kilometres west of Sydney. The site is known for the Cadia East underground mine – one of the world’s largest gold deposits – which uses innovative block caving methods to produce gold doré and gold-rich copper concentrate. Unlike remote mines, Cadia is a residential (drive-in, drive-out) operation where many employees live with their families in nearby communities, enjoying the Orange region’s excellent lifestyle and amenities.

Cadia’s team has a collaborative culture built around safety, innovation and community partnership. We proudly support local towns through jobs and in‑kind contributions and even run an Indigenous Buddy Programme to welcome and mentor new Indigenous employees. Working at Cadia gives you all the growth opportunities of a Tier‑1 mine within a friendly regional setting – a place where you can advance your skills, be home with family, and contribute to both Newmont’s success and the prosperity of local communities.

Your Impact

As a Supervisor Tailings Operations, you’ll provide frontline leadership to safely deliver tailings deposition, coarse sand placement and water management activities across Cadia’s Tailings Storage Facilities. You’ll translate operational plans into safe, achievable shift activities while ensuring critical controls, environmental requirements and approved operating standards are consistently maintained.

As Part Of Our Team, You Will
  • Lead operators, tailings technicians and contractors in the safe execution of daily and weekly operational plans.
  • Coordinate tailings deposition, coarse sand placement, embankment construction and water management activities.
  • Verify critical controls, conduct field inspections and address hazards or unsafe work conditions.
  • Allocate personnel, heavy mobile equipment and resources to meet operational priorities.
  • Monitor performance against plan, maintain accurate shift records and escalated emerging risks or operational constraints.
Prerequisites for Success in This Role
  • Practical frontline leadership experience within mining, civil construction or a similar heavy‑industry environment.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising operational crews and coordinating multiple work fronts.
  • Experience working with heavy mobile equipment, earthmoving, bulk materials handling or construction activities.
  • Strong capability in workplace inspections, risk assessments, critical control verification and incident management.
  • Tailings deposition, coarse sand placement, embankment construction or water management experience will be highly regarded.
Your Work Environment

This site‑based role is located at Newmont’s Cadia operation near Orange, New South Wales. Reporting to the Superintendent Tailings and Water Operations, you will lead heavy equipment operators, tailings technicians and contractors. The positions will initially operate on day shift during commissioning of the coarse sand infrastructure before transitioning to a seven‑days‑on, seven‑days‑off roster covering alternating day and night shifts. We encourage applications from candidates based in the local region who have unrestricted Australian working rights.
