Job summary

GEMCO, operated by South32, is seeking a Superintendent Health, Hygiene, Emergency Services & Security. This permanent role on a 4:3 roster is FIFO from Darwin or Cairns, offering leadership across HSE and security functions with accountability for performance and compliance.

You will coach multidisciplinary teams, oversee health surveillance and emergency readiness, and strengthen relationships with stakeholders to drive continuous improvement in safety and security outcomes.

Qualifications

• Leadership experience in complex operational or heavy industry environments
• Strong knowledge of health, hygiene, emergency or security risk management
• Proven ability to engage and influence stakeholders
• Practical judgement with improvement-focused problem solving

Located on the tropical Groote Eylandt in the Northern Territory, GEMCO is an open-cut mine that is accountable for over 20% of the world’s manganese ore production. Groote Eylandt is home to the Anindilyakwa people, who are the traditional owners of the land and have been working alongside GEMCO since 1963.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This is a Permanent position on a 4:3 roster, Monday to Thursday, FIFO from Darwin or Cairns.

As the Superintendent Health, Hygiene, Emergency Services & Security, You will be responsible for providing leadership, governance and continuous improvement across GEMCO’s Health & Hygiene and Emergency Services & Security functions, with accountability for performance, capability, compliance and operational outcomes.

Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:

• Coach and develop multidisciplinary teams across specialist functions
• Maintain standards, procedures, systems and assurance processes
• Oversee health surveillance, hygiene risk controls and injury support
• Strengthen emergency readiness, security services and stakeholder relationships

ABOUT YOU

You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:

• Leadership experience across complex operational or heavy industry environments
• Strong knowledge of health, hygiene, emergency or security risk management
• Trusted stakeholder engagement, communication and influencing capability
• Practical judgement, accountability and improvement-focused problem solving

Qualifications for this position are:

• Degree or Diploma in Occupational Hygiene, Health, Safety, Emergency Management, Security Management or related discipline
