Job summary

South32 Group Operations Pty. Ltd. is seeking a Lead Warehouse & Logistics professional for GEMCO on Groote Eylandt.

The role covers strategic optimization of warehouse and logistics performance, leading a two-person team, and ensuring safe, reliable material movements across site and broader operations. Based in Australia, the role operates on a 4:3 roster, with FIFO from Darwin or Cairns, and a strong focus on safety, service delivery and continuous improvement in a large-scale mining

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification or post-secondary studies in Business, or relevant industry experience in Supply Chain, Logistics, Operations or a related discipline.
• Lean or continuous improvement exposure desirable.

Responsibilities

• Lead safe and efficient warehouse and logistics operations across GEMCO.
• Ensure material availability, inventory accuracy and SAP compliance.
• Manage barge, logistics and warehouse service providers to deliver against safety, service and commercial expectations.
• Identify and mitigate supply chain and logistics risks to maintain operational continuity.
• Lead and develop a high-performing team through visible safety leadership, coaching and accountability.
• Improve logistics performance, cost efficiency and service reliability through continuous improvement initiatives.
• Manage freight contractor governance, budgets, KPIs, SLAs and commercial outcomes.

Located on the tropical Groote Eylandt in the Northern Territory, GEMCO is an open-cut mine that is accountable for over 20% of the world’s manganese ore production. Groote Eylandt is home to the Anindilyakwa people, who are the traditional owners of the land and have been working alongside GEMCO since 1963.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This is a Permanent position on a 4:3 roster, Monday to Thursday, FIFO from Darwin or Cairns.

As the Lead Warehouse & Logistics, you will be responsible for strategically optimising warehouse and logistics performance to ensure safe, reliable and commercially effective materials movement across site and broader operations. You will lead a team of two employees in the day-to-day operations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead safe and efficient warehouse and logistics operations across GEMCO.
• Ensure material availability, inventory accuracy and SAP compliance.
• Manage barge, logistics and warehouse service providers to deliver against safety, service and commercial expectations.
• Identify and mitigate supply chain and logistics risks to maintain operational continuity.
• Lead and develop a high-performing team through visible safety leadership, coaching and accountability.
• Improve logistics performance, cost efficiency and service reliability through continuous improvement initiatives.

ABOUT YOU

You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:

• Strong warehouse, logistics or supply chain experience in operational environments.
• Values-led leadership across large, diverse or multidisciplinary teams.
• Proven safety, risk and contractor management capability.
• Commercial mindset with strong stakeholder influence and problem-solving skills.

Qualifications for this position are:

• Tertiary qualification or post-secondary studies in Business, or relevant industry experience in Supply Chain, Logistics, Operations or a related discipline.
• Continuous improvement or lean methodology exposure desirable.
