Job summary

Enlighten, part of HII's Mission Technologies division, offers a paid Summer 2027 Software Engineer internship in a hybrid setup with on-site work in Maryland NSW. You will contribute by coding back-end services or front-end interfaces and supporting the development of modern, responsive UI.

Qualifications

• Strong working knowledge of RESTful web services.
• Experience with Object Oriented Programming (OOP) paradigms.

Anticipated Hourly Range: $22.00 - $32.00. The hourly range for this role is intended as a good faith estimate based on the role's location, expectations, and responsibilities. Job Description

Join us at Enlighten for a full-time, paid summer internship that offers personal and professional development within a fast-paced software engineering organization. Will be provided support and guidance on a regular basis, but will be challenged and will need to learn quickly. The ideal candidate will enter their senior year or final semester of college after the summer 2027 internship. Work will be performed in a hybrid environment with some on-site work with our talented team.

• Code back-end services or front-end interfaces.
• Support development of modern and responsive UI for the web.
• Iterating rapidly with our development team.
• Integration across technologies and applications, application development, user interface development, and system testing.
• Experience with Next-Gen Coding Agents: Practical history of integrating advanced AI agents, specifically Claude Code or Google's Antigravity / Gemini agentic workflows, into your daily software engineering routine.
• Additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Clearance Requirement: Must obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Security Clearance, but not required on day one; U.S. Citizenship required.
• Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent and be working towards a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (i.e. Computer Science), with more than 60% of the required credits completed.
• Knowledge of databases, query processing, and SQL.
• Must have a strong working knowledge and experience in RESTful web services.
• Must have an inquisitive nature, responsiveness, and excellent attention to detail.
• Must also possess strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
• Experience developing software using Object Oriented Programming (OOP) paradigms.
• Experience with configuration management tools (e.g. Git, Nexus, Maven).
• Understanding of software design, best practices, and standards.
• Understanding of the agile software lifecycle.
• Has the ability to learn quickly and works well both independently as well as in a team setting.
• Must be able to work in a hybrid environment, spending an average of 1-2 days per week at our Columbia, MD office. Flexibility is essential to adapt to schedule changes as needed.

Preferred Requirements

• Knowledge of cloud based technologies (AWS, Azure)
• Experience with the Linux operating system.
• A current security clearance is a plus.
