Job summary

Cape York Partnership (CYP) is a non-profit Indigenous organisation empowering the communities of Cape York. The Student Support Officer (SSO) reports to the Team Leader Academic Leaders and manages the Brisbane region ALS phase, coordinating scholarships and student supports.

You will recruit eligible students, provide case management, arrange tutors and mentors, and collaborate with partner schools to help students gain OP/QCE scores and entry into tertiary education.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated case management experience, able to provide student centred supports.
• Ability to communicate with young Indigenous people and develop working relationships.
• Organisational and communication skills.
• Understanding of issues affecting Indigenous young people from remote communities.
• Sound interpersonal and teamwork skills.
• Self-motivated and able to work independently.
• Strong oral and written communication skills (including computer skills).
• A current driver's license.
• A knowledge of Australian Indigenous cultures and ability to communicate effectively with Indigenous Australians.
• Possess a Working with Children Blue Card, successfully complete a Police Check.

Responsibilities

• Recruit eligible students to participate in the ALS and ensure quota scholarship positions are filled.
• Provide support to ALS students to aid high retention in the Cape York Leaders Program.
• Provide effective case management to ensure students achieve academic and non-academic goals.
• Ensure ALS students gain OP/QCE scores and entry into tertiary education.
• Develop professional relationships with schools, families and service providers.
• Maintain administrative systems and assist with routine tasks.
• Capture interactions and service provision on the CYP database and keep information current.
