Job summary

Margaret River Senior High School is seeking to establish a pool of Student Support Officers for permanent and fixed‑term vacancies that may arise during the 2027 school year. Appointments may commence at any time during this period.

Successful applicants will work with the student services team to support students, families and staff through coordinated, practical and compassionate support systems that strengthen engagement, wellbeing and learning.

Qualifications

  • be Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or have a valid visa with work rights for term of appointment.
  • obtain a valid Working With Children Check before you start; and
  • consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit before you start.

The Role

Suitable applicants will play a key role in supporting students, families and staff through coordinated, practical and compassionate support systems that strengthen engagement, wellbeing and success at school. You will work closely with the student services team, teachers, families, leadership staff and external agencies to help remove barriers to learning and ensure students are supported both at school and within the wider community.

The Student Support Officer assists in coordinating the school’s student services and contributes to developing responsive systems that support students experiencing social, emotional, behavioural or engagement challenges. This is an opportunity to contribute to work that genuinely changes outcomes for young people.

This role would suit applicants who can balance empathy with organisation, and who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment where no two days are the same. The role requires the ability to maintain professional boundaries, exercise sound judgement, and work constructively within areas of responsibility and control, while combining coordination, collaboration and problem-solving.
