Job summary

The University of Melbourne is offering a part-time Student Operations Officer position in FEIT’s infrastructure team. You will support safe, hands-on learning in makerspaces and student spaces, delivering inductions and training while assisting with equipment use, budgeting and risk assessments.

You will gain practical experience in operations, customer service and safety, working with staff and students to maintain welcoming, well-run spaces and a supportive learning environment.

Qualifications

  • Are a current University of Melbourne coursework student with capacity for part-time work during business hours.
  • Bring strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills to collaborate with diverse students and staff.
  • Demonstrate a customer service mindset and experience delivering high quality support in busy environments.
  • Show enthusiasm for safe, hands-on work with tools, equipment and technical spaces such as makerspaces or laboratories.
  • Display a growth mindset, contributing constructive ideas to improve processes, user experience and safety practices.
  • Hold or be willing to obtain a valid Employee Working with Children Check for Victoria.

Responsibilities

  • Assist students, project subjects and clubs with equipment use, budgeting, procurement and basic risk assessments.
  • Contribute to equipment checks, consumable management and process improvements that keep spaces reliable and welcoming.

Your new team

You will join the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology’s Infrastructure team, supporting innovative teaching and research. The Workshop, Makerspaces and Engagement team enables safe, high quality, hands‑on learning through well run technical spaces. You will work with passionate professionals and students, gaining practical experience in service delivery, operations and improvement.
