About the opportunity

This position has been designated for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people only under the provisions of section 126 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW).

The Student Experience Officer (Identified) provides, supports and promotes high quality, client-focused services at the assigned sites through in-person and online advisory, outreach and support activities for the University’s coursework and research communities, with a particular focus on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander student experiences.

The role provides culturally responsive support and guidance to students, including through Indigenous student support initiatives, cultural programs and activities that foster connection, belonging and engagement. You will also support the Peer Learning Advisors to deliver consistent, high-quality services and contribute to a positive and inclusive student experience.

Working closely with colleagues and other peer services across the University, you will contribute to events, cultural programs and online communities that support student connection, peer learning and the development of cross-disciplinary networks.

The University Library reserves the right to transfer or rotate the location of this position to any of its Library sites based on workloads, professional development or business needs.

Your key responsibilities will be to:
  • deliver high-quality, client-focused frontline, user education and student support services
  • provide empathetic and culturally responsive advice and support to students, with a focus on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander student experiences and Indigenous student support
  • provide guidance and support to Peer Learning Advisors to assist with the delivery of consistent, high-quality student support and training
  • supporting, planning and delivering cultural programs, events and activities that foster student connection, belonging and engagement
  • assist students with access to information resources, technology environments and equipment, including troubleshooting routine issues
  • work collaboratively with colleagues and support peers to achieve team goals and deliver a positive student experience
About you
  • hold relevant tertiary qualifications with subsequent relevant experience or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training
  • hold a current NSW Working With Children Check
  • identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander
  • have recent experience working in a frontline, client-focused service or support role, preferably in an education, library, IT or customer service environment
  • demonstrate an understanding of the student experience and the ability to build empathetic and meaningful connections with students
  • demonstrate good organisational skills, a commitment to providing high-quality support and training, and an ability to work collaboratively and support colleagues.
