Job summary

The University of Sydney is seeking an Events and Project Officer to provide project coordination and operational support across two teams within Sydney Future Students. You will plan and deliver on-campus and off-site engagement initiatives and events aligned with participation strategies.

You will report to the Events Manager and collaborate with Outreach and Access and Engagement and Partnerships to coordinate a wide range of projects. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Job description

We are in a period of exciting development and transformation within our Domestic Recruitment and Access team, part of Sydney Future Students, as we aim to maximise our school engagement activities across both widening participation and recruitment functions.

Events and Project Officer

In this context, we have an excellent opportunity for a Events and Project Officer to provide project coordination and operational support across two teams. Utilising your planning, project management and stakeholder engagement skills, you will coordinate the implementation and delivery of on-campus and off-site engagement initiatives and events that contribute to the University's strategy to increase participation in higher education.

Reporting to the Events Manager, you will work collaboratively with Outreach and Access and Engagement and Partnerships to coordinate a wide range of projects and initiatives, ensuring activities are delivered effectively and within agreed timeframes. The Events and Project Officer will also support recruitment activities for under-represented cohorts, including low SES, rural and remote, and Indigenous students.

About you
  • demonstrated organisational and planning skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver activities within agreed timeframes in a fast-paced environment
  • demonstrated cultural competence and an understanding of the experiences and needs of under-represented cohorts
  • experience coordinating events and engagement activities, with the ability to tailor activities to specific audiences and cohorts
  • well-developed interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including suppliers, business partners, schools, students and University staff
  • demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively, take initiative, exercise sound judgement and resolve operational matters as they arise
  • experience with project coordination, including an understanding of the project lifecycle, project documentation, standards and methodologies, with an interest in process improvement and delivering an excellent student experience
