Spiire in Canberra is looking for an enthusiastic student to start a civil engineering path with hands-on practice. You’ll learn how projects move from design to delivery, assist with tasks, and gain exposure to coordination with clients and other disciplines.
Paid employment supports your studies with guidance from experienced colleagues, including a $5,000 gross annual study stipend. This is an ideal entry point for a student pursuing civil engineering in Canberra.
At Spiire, our purpose is to better our communities, create opportunities for our people and clients, and deliver value to our stakeholders.
We bring together civil and water engineers, landscape architects, construction consultants, surveyors, town planners and urban designers to support the property and infrastructure sectors.
With over 430 employees, we’re one of Australia’s largest employee-owned property and infrastructure consultancies, bringing over 40 years of experience and local expertise to projects across Melbourne, Bendigo, Brisbane, Adelaide, Canberra, Geelong, Ballarat, Shepparton, Gippsland, Albury and Wodonga, and Townsville.
No matter how you say it, we’re glad you’re here!
Planning to study civil engineering in 2027, or already in your first or second year? Join Spiire’s Canberra team and start putting your learning into practice.
We’re looking for an enthusiastic student who’s curious about how communities are designed and built. You don’t need previous industry experience—just a willingness to learn, ask questions and get involved.
With paid employment, financial study support and guidance from experienced colleagues, this is an opportunity to build your confidence and explore a future in civil engineering.
We’re an integrated team of engineers, surveyors, planners, landscape architects and other property and infrastructure specialists. We bring different disciplines together to help shape communities.
In Canberra, you’ll join a supportive team and gain an introduction to civil engineering within a multidisciplinary consultancy.
Working alongside our engineers, you’ll build your understanding of how civil projects move from design through to delivery. As your skills develop, you’ll have opportunities to:
Assist with engineering tasks, project documentation and technical information.
Learn about civil design and the infrastructure that supports land development.
Gain exposure to project coordination and how we work with clients and other disciplines.
Participate in site visits where project requirements allow.
Apply what you’re learning at university to practical engineering work.
We’d love to hear from you if you’re:
A school leaver planning to commence engineering studies in 2027, with an interest in civil engineering; or
A current first-year engineering student intending to pursue civil engineering, or a second-year civil engineering student.
You’ll bring a positive attitude, clear communication and an interest in working with others. You’ll also be comfortable asking questions and taking on new challenges.
We’re particularly keen to connect with students from Canberra and the surrounding region, including those studying elsewhere who return home during university breaks and are interested in building their career locally.
The opportunity includes paid work in our Canberra office, with an anticipated summer commitment of two to three days per week during December and January. We’ll discuss your availability and study commitments with you.
Our Culture, Our Difference
