Structures Foreman
Complex buildings only stand if the structure is right the first time. This role leads the crews who set out, form, reinforce, and place the concrete and structural steel that hospitals, aged care, airports, and public infrastructure depend on. You turn drawings and programmes into safe, accurate, inspectable work—and you own the result until it is signed off.
Performance Objectives
- Deliver structural packages to the agreed programme, with daily targets met and delays flagged before they hit the critical path.
- Set out, form, reinforce, and pour or erect structure so levels, cover, embeds, and tolerances pass inspection without rework.
- Run the site so every structural activity has a current safe work method, a competent crew, and zero serious incidents.
- Coordinate plant, materials, and trades so pours and steel erection happen once, fully resourced, and to the quality plan.
- Close out hold points, ITPs, and as-built records the same day work is completed, not at the end of the package.
- Lift crew output by coaching leading hands, balancing labour, and removing the blockers that waste hours.
- Protect margin by controlling temporary works, concrete waste, and variation scope before cost leaves the site.
Environment & Resources
You lead structural crews and leading hands on live building and civil sites, reporting to the Site Manager or Project Manager. You work with engineers, survey, quality, and safety, and with subcontractors under early contractor involvement or managing-contractor delivery. You have authority over daily labour allocation, plant calls, and hold-point release within the approved programme, method, and budget.
Essential Qualifications
- Proven record running structural packages—formwork, reinforcement, concrete, and/or structural steel—on multi-storey or complex civil builds.
- Ability to read structural drawings, set-out data, and specifications and turn them into a workable daily plan.
- Current construction safety qualification and a history of running high-risk work (cranage, temporary works, concrete placement) without serious incidents.
- Experience closing quality hold points and producing records that satisfy client and certifier scrutiny.
- Clear, direct communication with crews, subcontractors, and site management under programme pressure.
Role Selling Points
- Work that people use: aged care, hospitals, airports, and public infrastructure—not speculative shells.
- Early involvement in design and method, so structure is buildable before it hits site.
- Delivery models that reward control: lump sum, guaranteed maximum price, and managing contractor.
- A mid-sized builder where a foreman still shapes method, quality, and how the job is run.
- A culture that treats compliance and maintenance-ready handover as part of the build, not paperwork after the fact.
If you can put structure in the ground on programme, to spec, and without hurting people, apply. Bring the projects where you owned the outcome.
