Job summary

Robert Bird Group, a member of the SJ Group, is seeking Experienced Structural Engineers to join its Melbourne Construction Engineering team. You will work at the interface between design and construction to solve complex challenges on major projects.

Successful candidates will deliver staged analyses, temporary works design, and detailed drawings for commercial, residential, health, education and mixed-use developments, often in tight urban sites.

Qualifications

• 4+ years’ Structural engineering industry experience.
• Experience with temporary works design is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of Australian codes and standards.
• Excellent communication and time management.

Responsibilities

• Detailed structural design of temporary works and implications for permanent works.
• Lead documentation of temporary and permanent works from tender to construction.
• Liaise with Project Directors and clients on current and future projects.

The Role

Due to recent project wins, we are currently seeking Experienced Structural Engineers to join our Construction Engineering team in Melbourne. Working closely with contractors, design and delivery teams, you’ll be positioned at the interface between design and construction to solve complex engineering challenges.

Successful candidates will provide specialist staged analysis, construction methodology and temporary works design services to some of the biggest contractors constructing Melbourne's most significant building projects. Projects include some of Melbourne’s most significant commercial, residential, health, education and mixed-use developments, often involving cranes and equipment, tower structures and constrained urban environments.

Your duties will include, but will not be limited to, the following:

• Detailed structural design of innovative temporary works and associated impacts on permanent works
• Detailed structural design of innovative temporary works and associated impacts on permanent works
• Detailed structural design and documentation of infrastructure permanent works along with identification of and consideration of relevant temporary worksfrom tender phase through to construction phase
• Client liaison, in conjunction with Project Directors and Associates, regarding current and future projects
• Active involvement in all your projects, including project resource management, in conjunction with the Project Directors
• Successfully deliver current and future projects, while supporting RBG's reputation for innovation, technical excellence, quality, and project delivery
• Proactively collaborating with team members, contributors, and stakeholders to maintain quality, timeliness, and co-ordination of project deliverables

About You

• Relevant Engineering qualifications – with a focus in Structural Engineering
• 4+ years’ Structural engineering industry experience
• Experience in the delivery of temporary works design is preferred but not required
• Experience in transport, energy, industrial or civil infrastructure projects will be highly regarded
• Strong understanding of Australian codes and standards
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
• Experience in the delivery of detailed engineering drawings corresponding with level of duties
• Solid grounding in steel and concrete design
• Excellent organisational and time management skills
• Demonstrated design experience using relevant Structural software
• Possesses project management and hands-on experience, encompassing administrative, commercial and technical aspects
• Submit technical reports of a standard requiring minimal correction; and provide final review of reports
• Able to work on own initiative and in a team environment
