Job summary

Laing O’Rourke group in Sydney, Australia seeks a Strategic Workforce Planning Lead to forecast, plan and align future workforce demand with project growth. You will connect project pipelines with business strategy, using data to identify capability needs, risks and opportunities.

You will partner with senior leaders, translate forecasts into actionable resourcing plans and develop insights to guide mobility, talent and capability development across the Australian business.

Qualifications

  • Experience in strategic workforce planning within large or complex organisations.
  • Strong ability to forecast, capacity plan and model scenarios.
  • Analytical skills to turn workforce data into practical insights.
  • Ability to influence and partner with senior stakeholders.
  • Understanding how planning connects to recruitment, mobility and capability development.

Responsibilities

  • Translate project pipeline into forward workforce demand, capacity and capability forecasts.
  • Partner with senior leaders to understand future project requirements and mobilization timelines.
  • Develop and implement workforce plans with clear actions across resourcing, mobility and capability.
  • Analyse demand, supply, utilisation and availability to identify risks and opportunities.
  • Undertake scenario planning across wins, losses, mobilisation and growth.
  • Identify critical capability requirements early to support proactive planning.
  • Develop workforce reporting and insights to support decisions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Translate project pipeline and growth plans into forward workforce demand, capacity and capability forecasts.
  • Partner with senior leaders to understand future project requirements, mobilisation timelines and critical capability needs.
  • Develop and implement workforce plans, turning forecasting and scenario modelling into clear actions across resourcing, mobility, talent and capability.
  • Analyse workforce demand, supply, utilisation and availability to identify emerging workforce risks and opportunities.
  • Undertake scenario planning across project wins, losses, mobilisation, demobilisation and growth.
  • Identify critical and hard-to-source capability requirements early to support proactive workforce planning.
  • Develop workforce reporting and insights to support business and resourcing decisions.
About You

You will ideally bring:

  • Experience in strategic workforce planning within a large or complex organisation.
  • Strong workforce forecasting, capacity planning and scenario-modelling capability.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to turn workforce data into clear, practical insights.
  • Confidence partnering with and influencing senior stakeholders.
  • An understanding of how workforce planning connects with recruitment, talent, mobility and capability development.
  • Strong Excel and reporting capability, with Power BI or similar experience advantageous.

Experience within construction, infrastructure, engineering, defence, resources, energy or another complex project-led environment would be advantageous but is not essential.
