Job summary

The Department of Justice in Western Australia is seeking a Research and Appeals Officer to manage and prepare correspondence for the Director Sentence Management, including Ombudsman inquiries, complaints and briefing notes for the Minister and Executive. This role supports stakeholders, conducts research and prepares appeals documentation for prisoner programs.

You will provide support to Managers within Sentence Management and prepare requests for legal opinions relating to Sentence

Qualifications

• Experience in handling correspondence for Ministers and Executives.
• Ability to research and prepare documentation for prisoner appeals and related programs.
• Knowledge of Prisons Act 1981, Prison Regulations 1982 and related legislation.
• Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Manage and prepare correspondence on behalf of the Director Sentence Management.
• Liaise with a wide range of stakeholders to resolve matters.
• Research and prepare documentation for prisoner appeals (Home Leave, Employment Program, Child Visits for Restricted Prisoners).
• Provide support to Managers within Sentence Management.
• Prepare requests for legal opinions relating to Sentence Management.
