Job summary

National Portrait Gallery of Australia seeks an EL2 Chief Financial Officer to provide strategic financial leadership, governance, and stewardship of the Gallery's finances, reporting to the Chief Operating Officer. You will lead the Finance, Business Management and Procurement team to assure statutory compliance and timely financial reporting.

Qualifications

• CA, CPA or tertiary qualifications in a relevant field, plus extensive accounting experience at the senior level is essential.
• Experience delivering financial management functions including budgeting, forecasting, reporting and compliance in a public sector context.
• Demonstrated ability to lead governance, risk management and assurance frameworks in line with PGPA Act and government budgeting.
• Ability to provide strategic financial advice to executives, boards and senior stakeholders to support organisational performance.
• Proven leadership of high-performing teams and governance cultures, with a focus on accountability and service excellence.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic financial leadership, analysis and advice to the Executive and Board on financial management, investment, procurement, risk and resource allocation to support the Gallery's strategic objectives.
• Lead and manage the Finance and Procurement function, including budgeting, forecasting, management accounting, procurement, contract management and statutory reporting.
• Develop, implement and maintain financial governance frameworks, delegations, policies and asset management procedures.
• Drive continuous improvement in financial performance, controls and systems.
• Foster leadership and people development, and build a culture of collaboration, inclusion and continuous improvement.
• Engage with external audit bodies, the Board, Audit and Risk Committee and central agencies on financial reporting and assurance.
