Job summary

Maritime Safety Queensland (MSQ) is seeking an Area Manager for the Cairns Region to lead marine safety and waterway operations across Cairns, Port Douglas, Cape Tribulation, Karumba, Weipa and Thursday Island, overseeing nine direct reports.

The role requires strategic leadership, governance, risk management and the ability to coordinate with government bodies, councils and industry to ensure safe vessel operations and timely emergency responses.

Qualifications

• Strategic leadership and organisational governance experience.
• Ability to apply maritime legislation and policy.
• Strong stakeholder engagement across government, councils and industry.

Responsibilities

• Lead Waterways Operations teams and set regional priorities.
• Oversee resources, budgeting and procurement for the Cairns Region.
• Provide maritime compliance advice and coordinate emergency responses.
• Ensure work health and safety obligations and service delivery across diverse waterways.
