Job summary

Local Buy is seeking a Category Manager for Fleet and Field Equipment to lead the strategic direction of the fleet portfolio and manage end-to-end procurement for Queensland councils. You will develop category plans, engage stakeholders and drive value across arrangements with a focus on whole-of-life outcomes.

You will bring five-plus years in fleet or procurement, strong market knowledge and experience in end-to-end sourcing, supplier performance and cross-functional collaboration.

Qualifications

• At least five years’ experience across fleet, plant, equipment, hire, maintenance services or procurement category management.
• Strong knowledge of fleet, plant and equipment markets, including supplier capability, regional servicing models and whole-of-life cost drivers.
• Experience developing procurement strategies for vehicles, plant, equipment, hire, maintenance, servicing, parts or related support services.
• Experience with supplier performance management, pricing schedules, market analysis, fleet utilisation data and emerging fleet technologies.
• Understanding of end-to-end source-to-contract procurement processes.
• Strong planning, analytical and problem-solving capability.
• Effective communication, presentation and stakeholder engagement skills.
• The ability to manage competing priorities while working collaboratively across the business.
• Experience within Queensland local government, which will be highly regarded.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, SharePoint and CRM systems.
• Ability to travel.

Responsibilities

• Lead the strategic direction and management of Local Buy Arrangements within your portfolio.
• Develop and implement category plans that improve portfolio performance, awareness and utilisation.
• Manage end-to-end sourcing activities, including market engagement, tender processes, evaluation, appointment and contract review.
• Provide practical advice to councils on fleet replacement planning, procurement pathways, equipment availability and fit-for-purpose outcomes.
• Support buyers to consider whole-of-life value, maintenance, utilisation, safety, operational continuity and environmental impacts.
• Monitor trends across fleet, plant and field equipment, including low and zero-emission vehicles, charging infrastructure, telematics, asset utilisation and emerging technologies.
• Engage with suppliers and manufacturers regarding pricing, lead times, supply constraints, servicing capability and product developments.
• Develop procurement specifications, pricing schedules, tender documentation and category plans.
• Monitor supplier performance and support the resolution of contract enquiries and escalations.
• Identify new opportunities across specialist vehicles, equipment hire, maintenance, servicing, parts, attachments and emerging solutions.
• Promote your portfolio through council briefings, buyer communications, supplier updates, webinars, conferences and industry events.
• Use market intelligence, spend data and stakeholder feedback to identify opportunities and support informed category decisions.
