Job summary

Hays Canberra is seeking an EL1 Strategic Communications Manager to lead strategic communications for major programs in the Canberra CBD. This 12+12-month contract requires NV1 clearance and offers an immediate start with flexible working arrangements.

You will advise senior leaders, develop messaging for diverse audiences, manage media relations, and mentor the broader communications team while coordinating with government stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Lead strategic communications planning for major programs and announcements.

• Oversee external communications providers and campaigns.
• Manage media, stakeholder and reputational risks.
• Oversee creation of speeches, media materials, digital content and briefs.
• Build relationships across government and external groups.
• Use audience insights and evaluation to improve outcomes.
• Mentor and support communications capability.
