Job summary

Cessnock City Council is seeking an experienced Stormwater Engineer to shape stormwater and flood management for the Cessnock LGA. You will advise across planning, project delivery and infrastructure management, supporting major projects with technical input and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.

The role requires a Civil or Environmental Engineering degree with extensive experience, strong project management, and a track record in environmental infrastructure strategies.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering or equivalent with extensive experience.
• Experience in a similar role with strong knowledge of stormwater design, investigation and maintenance.
• Experience implementing environmental infrastructure strategies and policies.
• Strong project management in planning, scoping and scheduling civil infrastructure including cost estimating and Capital Works budgeting.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical input in reviewing NHVR applications and assess bridges/major culverts for load capacity and constraints.
• Review and prioritise the Bridge Replacement Program per the Bridge Asset Management Plan.
• Lead floodplain management, flood mitigation and stormwater planning including flood studies and risk management.
• Manage stormwater, bridge, dam and flood infrastructure assets including inspections, reporting, registers and GIS data.
• Plan and manage Capital Works Programs from investigation to delivery, including budgeting and scheduling.
• Provide engineering advice across environmental infrastructure, development referrals, flood safety and risk management.
• Manage consultants, procurement and contract processes and contribute to grant funding opportunities.
