Job summary

Sofitel Gold Coast Broadbeach is seeking a dedicated Stewarding Supervisor to lead the Stewarding Department in a luxury hotel setting. Reporting to the Chief Steward, you will combine operational stewarding duties with shift supervision, training and compliance responsibilities to ensure safe, hygienic and efficient back-of-house operations.

You will supervise ambassadors, allocate duties, conduct pre-shift briefings, monitor cleaning schedules, and ensure HACCP and safety standards are upheld

Qualifications

• Previous experience in stewarding, kitchen operations, hospitality cleaning or similar high-volume environment.
• Experience supervising or leading a shift or team.
• Sound knowledge of HACCP, cleaning and sanitation practices, chemical safety and workplace health and safety.

Responsibilities

• Supervise Stewarding Ambassadors during shifts and support the Chief Steward in daily operations.
• Allocate duties according to occupancy, functions and service periods.
• Conduct pre-shift briefings and ensure smooth handovers.
• Assist busy periods and uphold standards.
• Maintain cleaning schedules for kitchens and back-of-house areas.
• Inspect work and address sanitation or organisation issues.
• Monitor temperatures, chemical dosing and HACCP documentation.
• Ensure compliance with safety and hygiene requirements.
• Coach and mentor Stewarding Ambassadors.
• Record breakages and equipment damage accurately.

Job Description

Sofitel Gold Coast Broadbeach is seeking a dedicated Stewarding Supervisor to support the daily operation of our Stewarding Department. This is an opportunity to step into a leadership role within a luxury hotel environment, guiding our Stewarding Ambassadors while ensuring our kitchens and back-of-house areas remain safe, hygienic, organised and fully prepared to support outstanding guest experiences.

Reporting to the Chief Steward, you will combine operational stewarding duties with shift supervision, task allocation, quality inspections, training and compliance responsibilities.

• Supervise Stewarding Ambassadors during allocated shifts and support the Chief Steward in coordinating daily operations.
• Allocate duties according to hotel occupancy, outlet activity, functions, service periods and cleaning priorities.
• Conduct clear pre-shift briefings and maintain effective operational handovers.
• Work alongside the team during busy periods, providing practical support and demonstrating the standards expected.
• Implement and monitor daily, weekly and periodic cleaning schedules across kitchens and back-of-house areas.
• Inspect completed work and address any cleaning, sanitation or organisational concerns promptly.
• Monitor dishwasher and glasswasher temperatures, chemical dosing and required HACCP documentation.
• Ensure all stewarding activities comply with food safety, hygiene, chemical-handling and workplace health and safety requirements.
• Train, coach and provide constructive feedback to Stewarding Ambassadors.
• Monitor serviceware and cleaning-supply levels and accurately record breakages, losses and equipment damage.
• Coordinate the safe handling, cleaning, transportation and storage of china, glassware, cutlery, kitchen utensils and banquet equipment.
• Promote responsible waste separation, recycling and the efficient use of water, electricity and cleaning supplies.
• Report and follow up maintenance concerns and immediately isolate unsafe or defective equipment.
• Build positive working relationships with Culinary, Food & Beverage, Banquets and other hotel departments.

Qualifications

What you will bring to the role:

• Previous experience in stewarding, kitchen operations, hospitality cleaning or a similar high-volume environment.
• Previous experience supervising or leading a shift or team.
• Sound knowledge of HACCP, cleaning and sanitation practices, chemical safety and workplace health and safety.
• A hands-on leadership style and willingness to support the team operationally.
• Strong organisational, communication and problem-solving skills.
• The ability to manage competing priorities and maintain high standards during busy service periods.
• A dependable, respectful and calm approach when working under pressure.
• Flexibility to work a rotating roster, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, public holidays and occasional approved overnight projects.
