Job summary

Auto & General is seeking a senior leader to transform our Home Building & Assessing teams in Australia. You will architect a commercially sharp strategy, embed robust controls, and drive excellence across all claims processes.

You’ll coach and develop talent, sharpen team capability in on-road and desktop assessing, and lead change initiatives to deliver superior customer outcomes and sustainable business growth.

Qualifications

• Extensive senior leadership experience (min 5 years).
• Strong knowledge of Home Assessing, Building Repair and restoration market practices.
• Proven ability to lead teams and drive business results.
• Excellent negotiation, communication and reporting skills.

Lead the transformation of our Home Building & Assessing Teams and unlock Auto & General's competitive edge in the market. You'll architect and execute a commercially sharp strategy that positions us ahead of the competition, while embedding robust controls and operating rhythms that drive consistency and excellence across every claim.

As a true people leader, you'll provide hands-on direction, coaching and development that empowers each team member to understand their critical role in our success. You'll build technical mastery across On-road and Desktop Assessing, sharpen negotiation skills, and foster a culture of accountability and purpose. Through targeted training programs and mentorship, you'll elevate your team's capability to navigate complex building repairs, manage supplier relationships, and deliver outstanding customer outcomes—all while exceeding KPIs and setting new standards for performance in the Home Claims space. Position Accountabilities:

• Lead and develop the On-road and Desktop Assessing Teams, acting as key stakeholder liaison across the department.
• Partner with the Commercial Manager to vet, procure and manage suppliers with appropriate governance, compliance and contractual frameworks. (including interstate travel when required).
• Build a highly engaged, technically strong, customer-focused team through coaching, mentoring and capability development frameworks.
• Drive team performance to exceed KPIs, service standards, processes, and regulatory compliance requirements.
• Act as escalation point for complex negotiations and high-profile disputes, working closely with the Claims Management Team.
• Monitor, manage and audit supplier performance to ensure contractual adherence and optimal cost and service delivery outcomes.
• Identify and report key trends, risks and opportunities within Home Assessing, Supply and external market practices.
• Lead the team through Change Programs, maintaining strong knowledge of Building Repair industry developments, regulatory requirements and company systems.

What experience you’ll bring:

• Extensive Senior Leadership experience through leading teams for a minimum of 5 years.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience and strong knowledge of the Home Assessing, Building Repair and Restoration environment and associated market practices and standards.
• Experience leading a team of professionals and operating effectively as part of a team with accountability for business results.
• Strong commercial acumen and proven capability in the development and execution of strategic programs of work.
• Exceptional time management and organisational skills.
• Strong verbal communication skills, effective with both customers & industry professionals when negotiating best business outcomes.
• Strong, accurate written communication skills, including report writing.
