St Vincent's Hospital Sydney in Sydney, NSW, is seeking a Staff Specialist in Palliative Care Medicine for a temporary 0.5 FTE position from January 2027 to June 2027. The role is based in the Palliative Care Medicine department and requires eligibility for AHPRA specialist registration and Fellowship in Palliative Medicine.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated integrity and commitment to Mary Aikenhead Ministries and St Vincent's Health Australia.
• Eligible for specialist registration with AHPRA or current registration.
• Fellowship in Palliative Medicine (RACP AChPM) or equivalent.
• Clinical expertise in pallia tive medicine appropriate to the role requirements.
• Demonstrated commitment to teaching at multiple levels (registrars, nurses, allied health).
• Experience in leading multidisciplinary teams and clinical service planning.
• Active involvement in research and translation of new practices in palliative care.
• Current driver's licence.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality clinical services to palliative care patients across inpatient and outpatient settings.
• Lead and participate in a multidisciplinary team to deliver patient-centered care.
• Contribute to teaching, training and mentoring of junior staff and trainees.
• Engage in service planning, development and implementation of best practices.

Position Summary

We have an upcoming temporary vacancy within the Sacred Heart Supportive and Palliative Care Service, providing clinical services to palliative care patients across both inpatient and outpatient settings.

Selection Criteria

• Personal integrity and demonstrated commitment to the Philosophy, Mission and Values of Mary Aikenhead Ministries and St Vincent's Health Australia.
• Possess, or be eligible to possess, specialist registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA);
• Possess Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians - Australasian Chapter of Palliative Medicine (RACP AChPM) or equivalent as provided for in the Staff Specialist's State Award;
• Demonstrated knowledge, skills and high standards of clinical practice in Palliative Medicine commensurate to experience which is appropriate to the requirements of the position;
• Demonstrated commitment to teaching at specialty registrar, junior medical officer, nursing, allied health and undergraduate levels;
• Demonstrated management ability in clinical service planning and the provision of a patient focused, comprehensive, high quality and cost effective clinical service with knowledge and commitment to the implementation of best practice and clinical service innovation;
• Demonstrated ability to provide high quality compassionate medical care as evidenced by recent practice experience in working congenially and collaboratively as both a leader and member of a multidisciplinary team, and as a provider of services that engender high levels of patient satisfaction and experience;
• Demonstrated ongoing contribution to the development, dissemination, and translation of new knowledge and practices commensurate with work in an academic teaching hospital environment including an active commitment and involvement in research and clinical trials relevant to the discipline of palliative care;
• Obtain a current driver's licence
