Job summary

St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney is seeking a Staff Specialist in Palliative Care Medicine for a temporary 0.5 FTE position based in Sydney CBD NSW. The role provides clinical services across inpatient and outpatient settings within the Sacred Heart Supportive and Palliative Care Service.

The appointment requires AHPRA specialist registration and RACP AChPM fellowship (or equivalent), with leadership, teaching, and research commitments in a teaching hospital environment.

Qualifications

• Specialist registration with AHPRA requirement.
• Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians – Australasian Chapter of Palliative Medicine (RACP AChPM) or equivalent.
• Commitment to teaching at specialty registrar, junior medical officer, nursing and allied health levels.
• Demonstrated knowledge and high standards of clinical practice in Palliative Medicine.

Responsibilities

• Provide clinical services to palliative care patients in inpatient and outpatient settings.
• Lead and participate in a multidisciplinary team to deliver patient-centered care.
• Contribute to education and supervision of trainees and staff.
• Support research, dissemination and translation of new knowledge in academic hospital settings.

Position Summary

We have an upcoming temporary vacancy within the Sacred Heart Supportive and Palliative Care Service, providing clinical services to palliative care patients across both inpatient and outpatient settings.

Selection Criteria

Possess, or be eligible to possess, specialist registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA);

Possess Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians – Australasian Chapter of Palliative Medicine (RACP AChPM) or equivalent as provided for in the Staff Specialist’s State Award;

Demonstrated knowledge, skills and high standards of clinical practice in Palliative Medicine commensurate to experience which is appropriate to the requirements of the position;

Demonstrated commitment to teaching at specialty registrar, junior medical officer, nursing, allied health and undergraduate levels;

Demonstrated management ability in clinical service planning and the provision of a patient focused, comprehensive, high quality and cost effective clinical service with knowledge and commitment to the implementation of best practice and clinical service innovation;

Demonstrated ability to provide high quality compassionate medical care as evidenced by recent practice experience in working congenially and collaboratively as both a leader and member of a multidisciplinary team, and as a provider of services that engender high levels of patient satisfaction and experience;

Demonstrated ongoing contribution to the development, dissemination, and translation of new knowledge and practices commensurate with work in an academic teaching hospital environment including an active commitment and involvement in research and clinical trials relevant to the discipline of palliative care;
