Job summary

St Vincent's Hospital Sydney seeks a Staff Specialist in Addiction Medicine to provide specialist clinical care within a multidisciplinary team. The role includes leadership in training, patient safety, and quality across the Drug Health service, with outreach to state-wide Telehealth and related advisory services.

You will drive cross-service and cross-speciality expert care and contribute to education, research, and practice improvements within a teaching hospital environment.

Qualifications

• Specialist registration with AHPRA or eligible for it.
• Fellowship of Australasian Chapter of Addiction Medicine or equivalent.
• Demonstrated knowledge and high standards in Addiction Medicine.

Responsibilities

• Provide specialist clinical care as part of a multidisciplinary team in inpatient, outpatient, and liaison services.

About the role

The St Vincent's Hospital Addiction Medicine Specialist position provides clinical leadership, supports specialty training, and promotes patient safety and quality across the Service, Drug Health, the Stream, and the Hospital.

The position proactively seeks to drive cross-service and cross-speciality expert care and training within and without the hospital.

The position provides specialist clinical care as part of a multidisciplinary team which may be in inpatient, outpatient and hospital liaison services.

The position also provides state-wide clinical care and leadership into the ADS Telehealth Service, the Service’s telephony lines (Drug and Alcohol Specialist Advisory Service), and drives the Service’s Collaborative Care approaches through leadership of outpatient services and liaison with internal and external providers.

Selection Criteria

• Possess, or be eligible to possess, specialist registration with registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA);
• Possess Fellowship of the Australasian Chapter of Addiction Medicine, Royal Australasian College of Physicians or other relevant Australasian Specialist College including Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists, Addiction Psychiatry certificate;
• Demonstrated knowledge, skills and high standards of clinical practice in Addiction Medicine commensurate to experience which is appropriate to the requirements of the position;
• Demonstrated leadership skills that support and foster innovation to create a learning culture, with proven ability to improve the quality of services and patient care outcomes;
• Demonstrated ability to provide high quality compassionate medical care as evidenced by recent practice experience in working congenially and collaboratively as both a leader and member of a multidisciplinary team, and as a provider of services that engender high levels of patient satisfaction and experience;
• Demonstrated ongoing contribution to the development, dissemination, and translation of new knowledge and practices commensurate with work in an academic teaching hospital environment;
• Personal integrity and demonstrated commitment to the Philosophy, Mission and Values of Mary Aikenhead Ministries.
