Job summary

Commonwealth Bank's Money Movement team is seeking a Staff Software Engineer – Mobile to lead Android architecture, shape platform evolution and deliver secure payment experiences inside the CommBank app. You will influence engineering choices and partner with Product, Design, Security and backend teams.

You’ll mentor engineers, uplift Android capability across teams, and drive automated testing, CI/CD, performance and observability while delivering reusable mobile components and scalable

Qualifications

• Deep Android development experience with Kotlin, Android SDK and Jetpack Compose.
• Strong knowledge of mobile architecture including MVVM, MVI, Clean Architecture and modular design.
• Experience with dependency injection, SOLID principles and established software design patterns.
• Proven delivery of secure and reliable mobile apps with automated testing, CI/CD and production observability.
• Experience integrating REST or GraphQL APIs and cloud services such as AWS.
• Ability to lead technical decisions and build support for strategic engineering direction.
• Experience mentoring engineers and uplifting Android capability across teams.

The Money Movement team builds and evolves important payment experiences within the CommBank app, helping millions of customers move and manage their money securely and confidently. As a Staff Software Engineer – Mobile, you’ll provide senior technical leadership and shape the architecture and evolution of mobile payment capabilities.

This is an opportunity to influence beyond the codebase. You will mentor engineers, uplift capability across the mobile engineering community and partner with Product, Design, Security and backend teams to deliver outstanding customer outcomes.

You’ll join the Money Movement team within the Payments Value Stream. The team works across Android, iOS and supporting services, with a focus on full-cycle ownership, cross-platform collaboration and production reliability.

In this role, you will:

Experience in several of the following will set you up for success:

• Deep Android development experience using Kotlin, the Android SDK and Jetpack Compose.

• Ability to lead technical decisions, constructively challenge existing approaches and build support for strategic engineering direction.
• Experience mentoring engineers and improving capability, quality and engineering practices across teams.
• Exposure to iOS, Swift, .NET, C#, microservices or regulated technology environments would be beneficial.
