Job summary

Commonwealth Bank is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to shape modern cloud, data, and AI-enabled platforms across Business Banking. You’ll influence architecture, mentor engineers and deliver scalable solutions across customer channels and data services.

You’ll work with cloud-native tech, APIs, microservices and modern engineering practices to deliver impactful outcomes for customers and colleagues in a fast-growing tech organisation.

Qualifications

• Proven experience designing and delivering complex software solutions in large-scale environments.
• Strong hands-on software engineering capability and problem solving.
• Experience building cloud-native apps, APIs, platforms or data-driven services.
• Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on delivery.
• Experience influencing technical direction and engineering standards.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and delivery of scalable software across customer channel and data platforms.
• Build and evolve applications, APIs, services and platform capabilities.
• Contribute across backend, cloud, frontend and integration capabilities.
• Drive architectural decisions and influence engineering direction.
• Champion modern software practices including CI/CD, testing and observability.
• Mentor engineers and grow technical capability across teams.
• Support production platforms and drive automation and reliability.
