CommBank's EC Technology team is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to design, build and operate production services, APIs and data integrations used to detect financial crime. You’ll influence architecture, uplift engineering capability and contribute to AI-enabled features in critical workflows.

Qualifications

• Strong CS foundations in algorithms, data structures, concurrency and system design.
• Experience with backend services, APIs and data integration; frontend as needed.
• Proficient in modern typed languages such as Java, Kotlin, Go or Python.
• Full-stack capability with React and TypeScript.
• Knowledge of cloud-native delivery, containers, pipelines and observability.
• Platform mindset: reuse capabilities and reduce duplication.
• Build security, privacy, reliability and risk controls from the outset.
• Willingness to learn new languages/frameworks.
• Collaborate, mentor, code review and design decisions.
• Exposure to AWS, Kubernetes, Docker, Grafana or Prometheus is useful.
• Experience building or operating AI-enabled systems would be valuable.

Responsabilités

• Design, build and operate production services and APIs with clear contracts and integration boundaries.
• Contribute to architecture decisions, including refactoring, modularisation and performance improvements.
• Consolidate capabilities onto shared platforms and retire legacy technology as core engineering work.
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines, automated testing and progressive delivery practices.
• Establish strong reliability and observability through dashboards, alerting, SLOs and ownership.
• Engineer secure and dependable AI and agentic features, including orchestration, evaluation and guardrails.
• Embed security, privacy, reliability and regulatory controls into design and delivery.
• Raise engineering standards through code reviews, pairing and clear technical reasoning.
