Job summary

Shield AI in Melbourne is seeking a Computer Vision C++ Engineer to design, develop, and deploy real-time perception capabilities for autonomous systems. You will build high-performance C++ pipelines and push edge compute solutions for robust operation in challenging environments.

You will collaborate with AI, robotics, and optical engineers on bespoke algorithms, camera calibration, SLAM, and multi-sensor fusion, turning research into reliable production software.

Qualifications

• Degree in Computer Vision, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
• Proficiency in C++ for real-time, high-performance software.
• Experience designing custom CV algorithms from scratch.
• Solid foundation in CV, image processing, and ML principles.
• Strong CS fundamentals, data structures, algorithms, and version control.
• Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams for edge solutions.
• Advanced degree preferred (Masters/PhD).
• Experience with object detection, 3D reconstruction, SLAM, camera calibration, or behaviour analysis (preferred).
• Experience in automated video surveillance or real-time vision systems (preferred).
• Familiarity with OpenCV (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and integrate advanced CV algorithms into high-performance C++ pipelines.
• Build custom perception capabilities with real-time performance and reliability.
• Develop geometry-based pipelines: camera modelling, calibration, projection.
• Support geolocation from imagery, visual registration, and multi-sensor alignment.
• Translate research concepts into deployable software.
• Work on bespoke algorithms rather than relying on libraries.
• Own work from ambiguous requirements through design, implementation, delivery.
• Collaborate with AI, robotics, and optical engineers.
