Job summary

CommBank is seeking a Staff Software Engineer - Full Stack to build and shape secure, scalable authentication experiences across its digital channels. You’ll own end‑to‑end technical direction, influence architecture, and work hands‑on with Node.js, React, Next.js and GraphQL.

You’ll collaborate with web and backend teams to deliver REST and GraphQL APIs, design token management and identity integrations, build cloud‑native services, promote testing, CI/CD, observability and reliability, and

Qualifications

• Strong experience with Node.js and JavaScript/TypeScript, including backend or BFF services.
• Proven React experience with Next.js familiarity or hands-on experience.
• Demonstrated system-design capability for scalable end-to-end solutions.
• Experience designing REST APIs; GraphQL/Apollo experience is a plus.
• Knowledge of cloud-native architectures, security and identity patterns.
• Excellent automated testing, CI/CD, observability and reliability fundamentals.

Responsibilities

• Design and deliver end-to-end authentication solutions spanning React/Next.js and Node.js BFF services.
• Shape scalable BFF and API architecture using REST and GraphQL where appropriate.
• Translate high-level requirements into thoughtful system designs and production-ready solutions.
• Design for secure token management, sessions, authentication state and identity platform integrations.
• Build resilient cloud-native services using modern distributed-system patterns.
• Champion clean code, automated testing, observability, CI/CD and production reliability.
• Collaborate across teams to create reusable integration patterns and consistent experiences.
• Mentor engineers and influence technical decisions while staying hands-on.
