Job summary

Checkbox is a Series A technology company building AI-native SaaS for in-house legal teams. We are recruiting a Staff Data Engineer/Data Architect to own Checkbox’s data strategy and architecture.

You will work closely with the VP of Engineering, mentor one other Staff Engineer and remain hands-on in system design and delivery. You’ll own data and AI reference architecture spanning base data sources, context, retrieval layers, APIs and secure tenant-isolated data access for AI agents.

Qualifications

• Significant experience in senior data roles shaping data and AI foundations.
• Proven ability to design data architectures for transactional, operational, analytical and AI-ready systems.
• Strong understanding of retrieval, embeddings, vector search and knowledge graphs.

• Define data architecture across transactional, operational, analytical, and AI-ready systems.
• Architect and build context and retrieval layers powering AI agents.
