Job summary

Checkbox is building AI-powered experiences for legal teams. We’re seeking a Senior Software Engineer, AI Experiences, to ship production-grade software across Checkbox products, primarily using TypeScript, React and Node.js.

You will turn ideas into reliable customer experiences, mentor peers, and collaborate with Product and Design. This role offers hybrid work from our Sydney office with strong ownership and impact.

Qualifications

• SaaS/enterprise software experience in frontend and backend.
• Strong TypeScript across frontend and backend.
• React expertise with clean, usable product interfaces.
• Node.js API and backend design experience.
• Proven production software experience in fast-paced product environments.
• Solid understanding of architecture, testing, observability, security and maintainability.
• Product-minded engineering judgment and clear communication.
• Ownership mindset with a pragmatic approach.

Responsibilities

• Build AI-powered product experiences using TypeScript, React and Node.js.
• Develop frontend interfaces that are intuitive, transparent and trustworthy.
• Build backend services and APIs to support AI workflows and orchestration.
• Partner with Product and Design to turn ambiguous AI ideas into shippable experiences.
• Integrate AI capabilities into real customer workflows across intake, triage, matter management and automation.
• Contribute to architecture decisions for scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
• Write high-quality, tested production code.
• Mentor other engineers and uphold engineering standards.
