Job summary

Commonwealth Bank of Australia in Sydney CBD, NSW, is seeking a Staff Data Engineer to lead the design and delivery of modern data solutions for Home Buying. You will shape architecture, uplift engineering capability and influence technology decisions.

You will combine hands-on engineering with technical leadership, guiding data pipelines, governance, and platform modernization using Big Data AWS, Snowflake and dbt to deliver secure, scalable production data products.

Qualifications

• Experience designing and delivering enterprise data pipelines using SQL and programming languages (Python/PySpark, Scala or Java).
• Hands-on AWS data engineering experience (S3, EMR/Spark, Airflow, Iceberg, AWS Glue).
• Proven track record with Big Data technologies (Spark, Hadoop, Hive, Iceberg, Sqoop, Kinesis or MSK/Kafka).
• Experience with Snowflake in production environments and data transformation frameworks like dbt.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, test and deploy scalable data solutions across the full development lifecycle.
• Lead engineering initiatives and coordinate delivery across data, platform, operations, and observability teams.
• Review solution designs and architectures, providing guidance aligned with standards and strategy.
• Mentor engineers and contribute to governance, architecture decisions and security practices.
• Develop reliable data pipelines and data products that are secure and production-ready.
• Partner with stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver meaningful outcomes.
