Job summary

Canva is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to own and evolve the core API platform that enables services to talk to each other, route traffic securely, and support multiple languages. You will set the direction for a meaningful portion of Canva's backend infrastructure.

You will lead a major migration of backend communications, collaborate with partner teams, and mentor engineers to raise the platform's technical bar while ensuring reliability and performance at scale.

Qualifications

• Experience building and operating infrastructure that other engineering teams depend on.
• Ability to own systems where reliability and correctness matter and evaluate trade-offs.
• Strong communication to align technical direction across multiple teams.

Responsibilities

• Designing and evolving core infrastructure that connects services across Canva's backend.

• Driving support for additional languages and frameworks on the platform.
• Owning reliability, performance, and correctness of critical systems.
