Job summary

Commonwealth Bank of Australia is seeking a Staff Engineer to shape the architecture and engineering direction for AI-powered document processing. You will combine strong software engineering with Generative AI expertise to deliver secure, scalable services.

You will work with senior technology leaders to solve complex problems, establish engineering patterns, and drive adoption of AI across document management. This role offers leadership in a critical transformation program.

Qualifications

• Strong software engineering experience and demonstrated technical leadership.
• Hands-on experience designing, building and deploying production AI or Generative AI solutions.
• Experience with LLMs, prompt engineering, structured outputs and AI evaluation.
• Experience with modern software engineering, APIs, cloud-native technologies and Python.
• Experience with document intelligence, OCR, classification, extraction or Intelligent Document Processing.
• Understanding of scalable, resilient and secure enterprise architecture.
• Ability to influence technical and architectural direction across teams.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Shape technical strategy, architecture and engineering standards across Document Management.
• Lead the technical design of AI-powered Intelligent Document Processing capabilities.
• Engineer solutions for document classification, information extraction, validation and transformation.
• Apply Generative AI, LLMs, ML and document intelligence to complex document-processing problems.
• Establish reusable patterns for prompt engineering, structured extraction, evaluation, confidence scoring and human-in-the-loop processing.
• Take AI solutions from experimentation to production-ready services with AI guardrails and monitoring.
• Mentor engineers and uplift AI and software engineering capability across the crew.
