Job summary

Glencore is recruiting a Database Administrator in Newcastle, NSW to manage SQL Server environments, optimise performance, ensure availability and enforce security standards. You will work with IT and business teams on design, backups, disaster recovery, and documentation across on‑premises and cloud contexts.

The role requires strong analytical skills, proactive problem solving, and collaboration to improve database reliability and efficiency in a fast‑paced mining‑industry environment.

Qualifications

• Proven experience administering Microsoft SQL Server environments in a production setting.
• Strong understanding of database performance tuning, monitoring, and optimisation.
• Experience implementing backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies.
• Knowledge of database security practices and compliance requirements.
• Experience working with cloud or hybrid infrastructure environments, and/or SAP HANA will be highly regarded.

Responsibilities

• Administer, monitor, and maintain SQL Server databases to ensure optimal performance, availability, and security.
• Manage database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery processes to safeguard business-critical data.
• Collaborate with applications and infrastructure teams to optimise database design, queries, and system performance.
• Troubleshoot and resolve database and infrastructure-related performance issues.
• Implement and maintain database security standards in line with organisational policies and industry best practices.
• Identify opportunities for continuous improvement including automation, capacity planning, and database platform optimisation across on-premises, private cloud, and Infrastructure/Platform as a Service environment.
• Maintain clear and accurate documentation of database environments, configurations, and operational procedures.
